Venture Concept 2
1)
Opportunity:
Refugees from Syria, Myanmar, Sudan, Somalia, and Venezuela have the unmet need of physical and occupational therapy services. These services would allow them to get live more independently in their new conditions. Civil Wars and economic crises are causing these kinds of displacements all around the globe. Customers now are relying on UNHCR and the WHO to provide medical aide however OT and PT is not always the highest priority. This opportunity is huge for the greater good of the human race. It is dealing with a humanitarian crisis in a world with the highest rates of displaced individuals ever. The window of opportunity will be open for as long as there are people being forced out of their country due to violence and war.

Innovation:
I am not selling a product or a service, I am going to be getting funding through the IOM and the UNHCR as well as grant money from WHO and WFOT. We would be providing innovative and intensive occupational and physical therapy training for educated individuals who would like to give back to the people who have been dealing with injuries and complications from their journeys outside of their country. We would also be working in these refugee camps for months at a time alongside the volunteers we are training. We would need to set up a training tent and house our volunteers as well as provide the individuals we are training with materials. Each project would need to be funded separately and they would need to be detailed months in advanced.
Venture Concept:
In a Syrian refugee camp in Syria for example former healers would come to us to get trained in modern occupational therapy and physical therapy practices and to share traditional and cultural healing practices for these types of issues. We would be dealing with people who have experienced real trauma. They may have witnessed loved ones die. They could be orphans, or amputees. They also could have a variety of war related injuries. Many of these individuals struggle to live fulfilled lives everyday and require these types of services to be independent. Realistically looking at this venture, funding would be tight and many grant requests would have to be written. We would rely on international donors as well as international organizations to fund each project. Each project would be different in countries all over the world, housing refugees from each corner of the world. We could also set up a base in The United States as well for refugees who have made it here, however, those most in need would be in less fortunate circumstances. To start out, for each project I would only want a tight knit group of diverse and highly trained OT’s, PT’s and Medical Anthropologists to work in these refugee camps. Probably no more than 12. The competitors would be the individuals who are already in the camps that we would be working with and sharing knowledge with. We would also need translators to effectively communicate with people in the refugee camps.
2) I only essentially received positive feedback on this assignment so therefore I do not have much to say here.
