Reading Reflection 3

1) The main theme of this book is that we all have a choice on how to think, and experience life to make decision each day to become successful.  Dweck asserts that there are two ways of taking on life. A fixed mindset, or a mindset that allows for growth and development everyday. The growth mindset means that an individual is always learning and growing from mistakes.

2) This book is applicable to ENT 3003 because it is a manifestation of success.  Essentially, Dweck breaks down the mind based on her own research and experience in terms of not only business, but all facets of the experience of life.  Ir is applicable to Entrepreneurship because in order to be successful, one must not assume that they know everything and stop growing.  For an entrepreneur to be successful, they have to be ahead of the curve and come up with innovative ideas to solve the problems that life throws at their business.

3) I would instruct the class to find ten minutes to sit down, meditate and reflect upon their business ideas, and the content of this book. I would suggest to think over everything thoroughly and further reflect on their current mindset.  I would then require them to write a personal blog post about their experience.

4) The biggest aha moment came when I read the section on relationships.  It wasn't new knowledge to me that it is really easy to fall into playing the victim. But I had an aha moment when I realized that applying a growth mindset to any type of relationship, not just a romantic one, will be able to sustain that relationship and allow both of the individuals to grow.

  1. Great job Tommy on your reading reflection. The book you reviewed is very interesting, I have heard about it in other business classes and I was surprised to find that there was a fixed mindset in business. It seems as if a fixed person would be negative and wouldn’t take advantage of the experiences that are affecting him or her and wouldn’t adapt to their environment and succeed.
