Bees are the primary pollinator in Florida and pollinators in general are on the decline. It is mentioned that if bees declined past the point of no return that the state of Florida would lose out on 24 Billion dollars of agricultural revenue.

Florida Red Tide: Wildlife Advocates Stunned by Level of Carnage on Fish

https://www.gainesville.com/news/20180823/florida-red-tide-wildlife-advocate-stunned-by-level-of-carnage-on-fish/1

This article talks about the death of marine life caused by toxic algae blooms in the Gulf. There have been thousands of fish reported dead due to this bloom. Governor Scott declared a state of emergency in seven of the counties affected.
The problem as described in the article is that the red tide algae is affecting local businesses, by warding away tourists from this area. It makes sense tourists do not want to travel to areas with dead sea life washing up on the shore and toxic algae in the water.

Those affected include small business owners, the tourist industry, fisherman, seafood restaurant owners, and locals.

This affects police stations, police officers, school boards, students, teachers, and parents.

http://www.staugustine.com/news/20180912/high-school-football-games-see-increased-security-this-school-year

This article describes the changes being made to security for local high school football games across the state of Florida. Backpacks are no longer allowed in and I know personally from my parents trying to go to games that they do not allow chairs in the stadiums any more.

The problem is with the heightened tensions after the Stoneman Douglas shooting and after the shootout after a football game in Jacksonville last month. Parents, students, police officers, and locals are both torn over the new security restrictions and the thought of a massacre occuring at a highschool football game.

Families, locals, fans, police officers.

  1. Hey Tommy,
I see that you chose to focus your opportunities around natural disasters and tensions after the school shooting. Of the all the opportunities I feel that the tensions at the football games would be the hardest to solve because of how serious of a threat a shooting is and how close to home it is. I feel that if you were to pursue this opportunity, you should focus on finding ways to soothe the families and lessen the tension but not necessarily take it away.
